Mindful Moment #4
The sun has dipped below the treeline for Winter, and the farm life turns inward. Firewood stash is ready, and the woodstoves create a cozy,’ hygge’ (Danish word that is untranslatable but refers to that warm fuzzy feeling when you are cozy & sometimes drinking with friends) feeling. The Snow Moon rises above the orchard and sets behind the Butsu.

Mindful Moment #3
The dramatic first storm of the year washed the farm clean. All the water flowing over the farm heads to the ocean via the Big River watershed.

Mindful Moment #2
Being MINDFUL in art, I focused on the most impressive pollinators in the garden, my sunflowers. As I revisit the garden theme, I will explore each pollinator- native and cultivated- as subjects of my various art techniques.

First Mindful Moment
Welcome to the first Mindful Moment from Big River Farm. Autumn is here in full force. The sun is hiding behind the redwoods along the road, and the patches of light are on the move. The garden’s last veggie harvest is hanging in there because there has not been a frost.
